Red Helmets Ride 2007

This year’s ride was outstanding, the weather could not have been better; mid 80’s with plenty of sunshine. Since the weather was with us, the turn out at the AA F/R Hqts was about 100 bikes. We left with escorts from Frederick County Sheriff Department, MD Port Authority and AA County PD heading for Frederick to stage as usual. As the time to leave for the Memorial was approaching, more and more bikes were arriving. As we rolled out and up Rt. 15, reports of 2 miles of bikes stretched along the highway. We continued thru the Town of Emmitsburg onto the Fire Academy campus to the Memorial.
We entered the campus, where two ladder trucks from Emmitsburg and Walkersville VFD were raised with a huge American Flag for us to ride under and to the applause of the families and friends of our fallen heroes. After some welcoming speeches from the Chairman Hal Bruno and Chief Sarnicki, we placed a wreath of carnations at the base of the Fallen Firefighter’s Memorial. What a great day to honor our fallen brothers and sisters and to reflect on their lives as they lived. A final count of over 500 bikers participated in this years ride. As always, it is my sincere hope that all who participated and observed the Red Helmet Ride know how just how important it is to NEVER FORGET.
